SHAKESPEARED! on Saturday!
The 2019 SHAKESPEARED! workshop will present two versions of William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night or What You Will on Saturday, June 22, at 7 p.m. at the Hazel Day Longden Theatre.
Tickets are $3 for those 12 years of age and up and admission is free for those under 12 years of age.

The middle school group will present a traditional version of the play. It is being directed by Tim Good with assistance from Eleanor Howard.
Appearing in leading roles in this version are Stevie Kennen, Olivia Stierwalt, Evie Green, Treyton Burgess, Marah Loughmiller, and Maura Lazar.

The high school group will present a Caribbean inspired version directed by Caroline Good & Bethany Bax.

Those wishing to audition should prepare a short musical selection and bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. A short dance audition will also be conducted.
Among the roles to filled are Shrek, the hero; his best friend, Donkey; Princess Fiona; an ensemble including Gingy & Pinocchio and other storybook characters; and Lord Farquaad. Younger versions of Shrek (Age 8-13) and Fiona (child 8-13, teen 14-18) will also be cast.

Shelly has directed many shows at PCPH including The Music Man, The Drowsy Chaperone, and 1776. She appeared as Miss Hannigan last season in Annie and was nominated for an Upstage Award.
With music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick (the team responsible for Fiddler on the Roof) and a book by Joe Masteroff (Cabaret), the musical tells the story of two clerks in a perfume shop in 1930’s Budapest. Georg (Dustin Bond) and Amalia (Lisa McCoy) are each in love with a pen pal without knowing they are actually corresponding with each other. Bond and McCoy both appeared in Annie and Beauty & The Beast last season.

Others in the cast include the owner of the shop Mr. Maraczek (Ric McFadden, Annie, Beauty & The Beast), another timid clerk Sipos (Jay Prewitt, Annie, The Mousetrap, Beauty & The Beast), and two other employees carrying on a clandestine love affair Stephen Kodaly (Joshua Saul Bain, Beauty & The Beast, The Addams Family) and Illona Ritter (Meghan Armitage, Beauty & The Beast, Drowsy Chaperone). A young bicycle messenger Arpad (Jason Lafever, PCPH debut) also longs to work in the shop.

When Georg and Amalia decide to meet, it is at a discreet hideaway that has a Maitre’D (Andrew Ranck, Annie as Rooster ) who promises a “romantic atmosphere.” A lively tango and a clumsy busboy (Noah D. Pettit) add to the fun.

The cast also includes Anna Harris (also the Production Stage Manager, The Game’s Afoot and The Mousetrap), Hannah Lafever (PCPH debut) , Kayla Norman (PCPH debut), Hannah Newlin (PCPH debut), Robin Schneider (Annie and Beauty & The Beast), and Matt Schneider (1776 and Beauty & The Beast). Doing double duty as stage crew members and onstage denizens are Mason Allen, Hadley McCoy, and Cameron Wunderlich (The Foreigner, The Mousetrap). Pettit and Brandon Wunderlich are also working on the stage crew. All members of the crew worked on Annie and Beauty & The Beast last season but many are making their PCPH onstage debuts.

Bond is also technical and lighting designer. Grace Elmore will run the light board and Haley Wilson will run the soundboard. Running the spotlights are Sarah Nowling and Ally Taylor.
The season will continue in July with the comedy Send Me No Flowers.

The 58th season of Putnam County Playhouse will begin with our annual Open House Celebration on Sunday, June 2. The event will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

“Send Me No Flowers” Cast Announced!
Director TJ Tincher has chosen his cast for the July comedy at Putnam County Playhouse. Following the theme of Love Conquers All, it will be produced July 11-13 & July 17-20. Season tickets are on sale now, and individual tickets for this show and all others will go on sale at the annual PCPH Open House at 2 p.m. on June 2.

TJ directed last season’s hit The Mousetrap. He has appeared in many PCPH productions including Once Upon a Mattress, Pippin, and The Bad Seed. He won the Upstage Award for his role in Thoroughly Modern Millie. Assistant Director Mike Mitchell has also appeared onstage at PCPH in shows such as On Borrowed Time, Pippin, and The Nerd.

The cast and staff gathered for the first read thru of the script on Thursday, May 9.
The leading role of George Kimball will be played by Scott Armitage. He has appeared onstage at PCPH in many roles in musicals and comedies. Scott played Nathan Detroit in our latest production of Guys & Dolls. He won an Upstage Award for his role in Don’t Drink the Water.

The distaff lead will be played by Ashlee Anne Vitz. She is Judy Kimball who has to deal with her husband’s hypochondria and suspected stepping out! Bryan Schroeder is playing Bert Power a college friend of the couple who is caught in the middle of Judy’s insecurities and George’s wacky plot to marry off his soon to be widowed (he thinks) wife.
Ashlee came to PCPH as Queen Guinevere in Camelot, and has appeared in leading roles in shows that include Guys & Dolls (opposite Scott), The Bad Seed, and Angel Street. Bryan has worked on tech for many shows and received an Upstage Award for his work in South Pacific.

Noah D. Pettit and Cameron Wunderlich also appear. Noah is playing the swinging delivery boy Vito and Cameron is the more serious Dr. Morrisey. Both have worked on numerous shows at PCPH. Cameron won the Upstage Award for his performance in The Foreigner. They are both currently working in She Loves Me, our season opener.

Among those making their PCPH debuts are Sam Draper who plays neighbor, Arnold Nash. His wife Jessie Draper is playing Passberby Number One who appears in George’s fantasy.

Three cast members from Little Women, The Musical are together again in Send Me No Flowers. Michaela Semak who played Beth is here in the role of Miss Mason, a misunderstood working girl. Eleanor Howard who played Aunt March is Passerby Number Two. Jack Randall Earles who was Mr. Laurence plays Mr. Akins, a determined cemetery plot salesman.

Eleanor has appeared in Curtains, See How They Run, and Angel Street among many productions. Michaela has also appeared in several productions including Guys & Dolls. Jack Randall, who is also a board liaison for the show, appeared last season in Annie and The Mousetrap. He is a four-time Upstage Award Winner.

Our annual two-week-long “Shakespeared!” Workshop this year centers around Twelfth Night, with the middle school group performing a more traditional version with fun Renaissance costumes. Tim Good will be directing, assisted by Eleanor Howard.

The middle school group meets in the afternoons Monday-Friday 12:15-2:30pm June 10-21, with a combined performance Saturday, June 22nd at 7:00pm, when each group presents their own very different versions of Twelfth Night.

The high school workshop meets in the afternoons Monday-Friday 3:00-5:30pm June 10-21. Following the middle school performance, the high school group will present their comedic version of Twelve Nights in the Caribbean, complete with plenty of pirates, a lively soundtrack, chase, and pop-culture references. Caroline Good will direct.

The scripts will be available soon on the playhouse website Youth Theatre Workshop page. So, feel free to read it before our first day. We will read through the play on day one, and the players will have a chance to note their role preferences. The roles will be cast that evening, and rehearsals begin on day two!

Director Tincher describes the play:
“Send Me no Flowersis a show about misunderstandings and the lengths that one man will go to for the woman he loves. George Kimball is a hypochondriac with a problem, he thinks he’s dying. When he overhears his doctor talking about another patient, he immediately assumes its about himself.
“He decides to become proactive in his ‘last few weeks’ and plans for the eventual life his wife will have to live without him. He even goes so far as to find the perfect suitor for her after he’s gone. With the help of his constantly buzzed neighbor, Arnold, George will realize all his worrying and pills won’t save him from the inevitable realization that he’s been living more than he ever has.”
Stage Manager for the production is Mike Mitchell.

Season ticket orders are filled in the order they are received. You can choose the series you like. Tickets are $35 each and guarantee you the SAME seat for each performance on our Mainstage.
Our season this year will open with the musical She Loves Me in June. It will be followed by the comedy Send Me No Flowers in July. The rollicking musical Shrek hits the stage in August. The season closes with the Pulitzer Prize Winning play Picnic.
Individual tickets are not available until the day of the Open House on June 2, at 2 p.m. Do not use this form to order single tickets.
