“Oklahoma!” Director’s Note

Joshua Saul Bain

I am so excited to be directing the First Show of the 2024 season Oklahoma!

I am also excited to be directing for the FIRST TIME at the Putnam County Playhouse.

This show holds a special place in my heart as it was one of the first shows I have had the pleasure to be in at the PCPH.   I was originally cast in the chorus by Lita Sandy in the 2001 production, and later, due to an injury of fellow actor, Brad Sandy, I was given the role of “Will Parker”.

Since then, I have continued to act in many shows throughout the years and am now a Board Member. I will be joined by Kathryn  Dory as our Music/Assistant Director! This show is the first musical written by the duo of Rodgers and Hammerstein, and is based on Lynn Riggs’ 1931 play, Green Grow The Lilacs..  It is such a fun lighthearted show about courtship and love and everything in between!

The Show will be onstage June 6th -8th and June 12th-15th with auditions being held April 7th at 3pm and April 8th at 7pm. I am looking for a cast of all ages, 13 years of age or older.  There are many fun and exciting roles to audition for as well as a large ensemble, so please come prepared to have fun!

During auditions you will be asked to read from the script, sing, as well as have a fun dance/movement audition (no experience required).  Please bring sheet music with you, as well as comfortable attire and appropriate shoes to dance in.   We will be providing an accompanist for you and you may also be asked to sing something from the show.

The important part is to come and have fun!  I can not wait to get started on this fun and entertaining show!!

Thank you, Joshua Saul Bain – Director
