You are invited to attend the Annual Meeting of the Putnam County Playhouse. It will happen on Sunday, October 23, at 3 p.m. in the Rehearsal Center of the Hazel Day Longden Theatre. Light refreshments will be provided.

The 55th season will be revisited. The committee chairs will give their annual reports. Board members will be nominated and elected. Come and be a part of the business side of PCPH.

The presentation of the 2016 Upstage Award – aka as The Hammy – will also take place.  This year, the worthy nominees are:

2017 Will Be Our Season of Laughter!

Our 2017 season includes three PCPH premieres and one hilarious encore performance. 


The season will open in June with a production of the Tony-Award winning musical Curtains. The show originally opened on Broadway on March 22, 2007, after its world premiere in July, 2006, at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles. 

The book for Curtains is by Rupert Holmes, based on an original book and concept by Peter Stone. The music is by John Kander and lyrics are by Fred Ebb – the team responsible for such shows as Chicago and Cabaret.
Nominated for eight Tony Awards, it won the Best Actor Award for Best Actor, David Hyde Pierce as Detective Frank Cioffi.

Curtains takes place at the Colonial Theatre in 1959, during the Boston tryout of a new musical.  The inept leading lady is murdered, and a local detective – who just happens to be a musical theatre fan – has to find out whodunnit!

With both character and “show” songs, the evening is a hilarious combination of music and situations. There are roles for many performers, and Curtains is sure to be an audience favorite! It will be produced June 1-3 and June 7-10.

The laughs continue in July when Larry Shue’s comedy The Foreigner returns to the PCPH stage. One of the most popular shows produced by community and professional theatres across the country, we are pleased to bring it back for you.

When Charlie Baker simply wants to be left alone on his vacation at a small town inn, his friend Froggy convinces him to pretend that he is a foreigner who can’t understand English. The residents of the small town where he is staying all have secrets, and they have no hesitation about discussing them in front of Charlie – after all, he can’t understand what they’re saying.

Chaos reigns as Charlie changes the lives of everyone around him and finds love for himself as well.

The Foreigner offers many comedic roles for performers and will be produced July 13-15 and July 19-22.

Watch out for the neighbors! They’re spooky and they’re kooky – it’s The Addams Family the musical. In August all of the familiar faces will be front and center onstage at the Hazel Day Longden Theatre. 

The show opened on Broadway in April 2010. It was nominated for two Tony Awards. The Addams Family music and lyrics are by Andrew Lippa with a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice. It is based on the comic strip created by Charles Addams.

Daughter Wednesday Addams has a new boyfriend, and the meeting between the two families results in hilarious consequences for everyone – living and…..not living.

Roles for performers include Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley, Grandma, Lurch, Uncle Fester, Grandmama, and Wednesday. There is a large ensemble as well as the “normal” Beineke family.

The Addams Family will be produced August 10-12 and August 16-19. The musical is a PCPH premiere.

Our season closes with Laughing Stock by Charles Morey. This comedy is about a season of summer stock in a barn theatre – much like our own Hazel Day Longden Theatre. 

The rehearsals and performances of the season with all their hilarious consequences provide the laughter for everyone. There are roles for many performers.  And it might be hard to tell where the show begins and reality ends.

Laughing Stock is a PCPH premiere and will be produced September 7-9 and September 16-19.

Directors and audition dates for all shows will be posted here in January, 2017.

SHAKESPEARED! the Youth Theatre Workshop will be held June 12-24.  The Children’s Theatre Workshop will by July 24-28. Signup information for both of these events will be posted in the spring.

“THE ODD COUPLE” OPENS ON SEPTEMBER 8!!

The Odd Couple has ended its run.

The 55th  season of Putnam County Playhouse will close with a production of the Neil Simon comedy The Odd Couple (Female Version).

The show features Sarah Bond as Olive Madison and Meghan Armitage as Florence Unger. Their combined living arrangement causes conflicts familiar to anyone who has seen the original play, film, or television show.

Florence (Armitage, R) interrupts the weekly Trivial  Pursuit game of Mickey (Bailey, L) and Sylvie (Creekmore, C) with her coasters and cleaning.
The comedy also highlights the relationship between the two women and their upstairs neighbors, the Costazuela brothers, Manolo and Jesús. These characters are played by Ric McFadden and Dustin Bond.

Florence (Armitage) and Olive ( Bond) have reached an impasse.
Friends of the leads are played by Kathy Arnold, Karen Bailey, Allison Creekmore, and Katie Wallace.

Director for The Odd Couple is Andrew Ranck. Stage manager and props master is Jessica Masner. Set design is by Ranck and Linda Gjesvold.

Vera (Arnold, L),  Olive (Bond, C), and Renee (Wallace, R) play the game.

Bailey and McFadden appeared in the play when it was first produced by PCPH in 1991. Bailey reprises her role as Mickey the Cop, and McFadden plays the other brother this time around.

Costumer and wigmaster is Shelly McFadden. Set decorator is Aaron Swartz. Technical support is by Fiona Good running the light board and Cameron Wunderlich running the sound.

Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple will close the 55th season of Putnam County Playhouse. This time around, the leading characters are female, although the situations and the laughs are the same.

Director for the production is Andrew Ranck. Stage Manager for the show is Jessica Masner. Set designer is Linda Gjesvold.

Appearing in the leading roles are Sarah Bond as Olive Madison and Meghan Armitage as Florence Unger – the distaff equivalents of Oscar & Felix.

McFadden and Sutherlin appeared in the original production of  The Odd Couple (The Female Version) when it was produced at PCPH in 1991. Sutherlin is reprising her role as Mickey the cop, and McFadden is playing the other brother this time around.

The cast is led by Joe Buser as John Adams, Ric McFadden as Ben Franklin, and Lee Reberger as Thomas Jefferson.  Buser is making his PCPH debut. McFadden has played leading roles in The Music Man, Man of La Mancha, and Camelot.  He most recently appeared in Damn Yankees at Myers Dinner Theatre. Reberger appeared in The Drowsy Chaperone and directed last season’s Into The Woods. 

They are joined by Josh Bain as conservative John Dickenson, Chris Wurster as Col. Thomas McKean, and Michael McClaine as President of the Continental Congress, John Hancock.

1776 relates the story of the writing and signing of the Declaration of Independence.  The founding fathers are seen as real men and not the one-dimensional characters usually found in history books.

Also working on the technical side are Jessica Masner, stage manager; Samantha Flannelly, sound board operator; Melissa Green, light board operator; and Cameron Wunderlich and Sarah Nowling as spotlight operators.


The musical originally opened on Broadway and was nominated for five Tony Awards.  It won three including Best Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, and Best Featured Actor (Ron Holgate, who played Richard Henry Lee).  Music and lyrics are by Sherman Edwards and the book is by Peter Stone.

WE SEE THE LIGHT!!!

 Hendricks Power Cooperative contributed $3,750 towards a lighting project for the Putnam County Playhouse and sought a matching grant from CoBank’s “Sharing Success” program. This $7,500 plus other funds raised by the organization will allow them to replace the existing 15+ year old lighting system. The outdated system was malfunctioning, causing not only lighting issues for productions, but 
Putnam Playhouse also safety concerns. 
“Hendricks Power is committed to helping our communities thrive in all areas and this project aligned well with our efforts from a lighting, energy efficiency and safety perspective,” said Dana Cochran, Director of Corporate Marketing. “We are glad to provide these funds and help attain the matching grant from CoBank so that the Putnam County Playhouse can continue to provide high quality productions for its community.”
“Our old lighting system was used when we obtained it over 15 years ago,” stated Michael McClaine, Playhouse Board President.  “Needless to say, this grant came just in time to avoid major disruptions in performances and insures technical lighting reliability going forward for many years.”  
Board member Drew Brattain added, “The support we received from Hendricks Power and CoBank is greatly appreciated and demonstrates their willingness to give back to communities they serve.”   
The Putnam County Community Foundation helped facilitate this grant by bringing the need to Hendricks Power.
