The 53rd season of Putnam County Playhouse will end with a production of The Man Who Came to Dinner by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman. The comedy will be presented September 11-13 and September 17-20.

Ric McFadden is the director. He is being assisted by Sandi Rossok. Working on the technical side are Linda Gjesvold, set designer and Dustin Bond, lighting designer. Production stage manager is Madison King. Cecily Girton is running the light board. Meghan Armitage assisted with the light design. Craig Armitage is the sound technician.

Near Christmas time in 1939 Sheridan Whiteside, a popular radio commentator and critic, is stranded in an Ohio home after he falls on the front steps. He creates chaos by taking over the home and inviting all of his famous friends to visit. The part of Whiteside is played by Jim Rambo who has appeared in many PCPH productions. He directed recent productions of Don’t Drink the Water and Harvey. His performing credits includes roles in On Borrowed Time, The Curious Savage, and Pippin.

Ernest and Daisy Stanley, owners of the besieged home will be played by David Buttram and Katie Wallace. Both have appeared many times onstage. David was the lead in Death By Chocolate and Katie has appeared in such shows as I Remember Mama and Gypsy.

Lucas Eckrich and Chloe Maginity play the children of the household. Harriet Stanley, a lady with a secret, is played by Shelly McFadden who is also the costumer for the production.

Shelly directed The Drowsy Chaperone last season and has also appeared in many productions including Clue: The Musical and Man of La Mancha. Lucas and Chloe had leading roles in the YTW SHAKESPEARED! production last June.

Noelle Brown is making her PCPH debut in the role of Maggie Cutler, Whiteside’s secretary, who finds herself in a romantic triangle with a local newspaperman Bert Jefferson played by David Neeley, and famous stage star Lorraine Sheldon, played by Caroline Good. David was in The Wizard of Oz at PCPH in 2002, and is returning to our stage in this show. Caroline has been in many shows here including The Sound of Music, Blithe Spirit, and Angel Street (the last two opposite husband Tim).

The household servants are played by Dianna Baysinger (making her PCPH debut) and Michael McClaine. The local doctor is played by Jim Green. The long suffering nurse, Miss Preen, is played by Kathy Helms Arnold. Interested neighbors include Annie Weltz and Rossok.

Michael is currently the president of the Board of Directors of PCPH. He was last seen onstage as Elwood P. Dowd in Harvey. Kathy played Ouiser in Steel Magnolias in July.  Jim has been seen in The Music Man (Charlie Cowell) and See How They Run (among many other shows). Annie was in Guys & Dolls and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Sandi has been in many shows including On Borrowed Time and The Curious Savage.

Whiteside’s visiting acquaintances include Professor Metz, played by Bob Jefferson making his PCPH debut; Beverly Carlton, a famous actor, played by TJ Tincher; and Banjo, a Hollywood comedian, played by Jack Randall Earles. TJ and Jack Randall have been in many shows at PCPH. Most recently TJ was in Guys & Dolls and was the assistant director for Little Shop of Horrors. Jack Randall directed Guys & Dolls and was onstage last season as The Man in the Chair in The Drowsy Chaperone.

Also in the cast are Dylan Bodnarick, Scott Armitage, Brad Williamson, and Gordon Arnold playing a variety of roles. Gordon is making his PCPH debut. Dylan was in Guys & Dolls last June. Brad has been seen in The Crucible, Mark of Cain, and Fiddler on the Roof. Scott most recently played Nathan Detroit in Guys & Dolls.

There is also a brief appearance by a children’s choir played by Mychaela Clar, Mia Rios, Alice Howard, Bailey Williams,  and Makayla Rogers.

“Little Shop of Horrors”

The musical Little Shop of Horrors continues the 53rdseason of Putnam County Playhouse. 

Little Shop of Horrors was first a low-budget film directed by Roger Corman in 1960. The musical version was first performed Off-Broadway in 1982. It was created by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, the team later responsible for Disney’s The Little Mermaid. A film version of the musical was released in 1986, and it was most recently revived on Broadway in 2003.

Director for this production is Bryan Schroeder. Musical director is Kathi Elliott. Technical director is Matt McClaine. Joining Elliott in the pit are Marilyn Burdsall, pit conductor; Michael McClaine, percussion; and Drew Brattain playing bass guitar. Assistant director is TJ Tincher.

Leading the cast is Dustin Bond as Seymour Krelborn, an assistant in a Skid Row Flower Shop. He is in love with Audrey, played by Meghan Armitage. Taking the role of the shop owner, Mr. Mushnik, is David Roberts.

When Seymour discovers a unique plant, his life changes forever. He has no idea that Audrey II wants to take over the world one city at a time, and it includes Seymour in its plan.

A trio of neighborhood urchins comment on the proceedings in songs reminiscent of those sung by 60’s girl groups. The trio are Ashlee Anne Vitz (Ronnette), Hannah Brattain (Chiffon), and Mira Hoffman (Crystal).

Audrey’s boyfriend, dentist Orin Scrivello, is played by Jacob Peterman. Featured in several roles is Cameron Callan. The voice of Audrey II, the extraterrestrial plant, will be done by Dale Grove.

Deb Grammel is choreographer. Production stage manager and assistant choreographer is Sarah Bond.

Songs include “Suddenly Seymour”, “Somewhere That’s Green”, “Skid Row”, and “Dentist.”

Costumes are by Caroline Good. Running the sound/light board is Elise Merrell. The plant puppets are animated by Elijah Brattain.  

Jessica Masner is the assistant stage manager. The stage crew includes James Champion, Samantha Flanelly, Madison King, and Jim Elliot. Running the spotlights are Cameron and Brandon Wunderlich.

Playing the title role, Sheridan Whiteside, is PCPH veteran Jim Rambo. 

Joining him are newcomers Noelle Brown and Dave Neeley as Whiteside’s secretary Maggie and her romantic interest Bert Jefferson.  Owners of the home where Whiteside is staying, Ernest and Daisy Stanley are played by David Buttram and Katie Wallace. The children of the household, June and Richard, are played by Chloe McGinity and Lucas Eckrich.

Household servants John and Sarah will be played by Michael McClaine and Dianna Baysinger.  Neighbors of the Stanleys are Sandi Rossok (who is also assistant director) and Annie Weltz. Shelly McFadden (who is also costuming the show) is Harriet Stanley.

Visitors from the world of entertainment include TJ Tincher as Beverly Carlton, Caroline Good as Lorraine Sheldon, Bob Jefferson as Professor Metz, and Jack Randall Earles as Banjo. 

Kathy Helms Arnold is nurse, Miss Preen, and Jim Green is local the local sawbones with a literary bent.

Playing multiple roles are Brad Williamson, Gordon Arnold, and Scott Armitage.

Set design is by Linda Gjesvold and lighting design is by Bryan Schroeder.

The season continues next in August with Little Shop of Horrors.



CHILDREN’S THEATRE WORKSHOP PERFORMANCE ON FRIDAY!

The 2014 Children’s Theatre Workshop is going on every day this week!  It will culminate in a “work in progress” presentation on Friday, July 25, at 6 p.m.  The event is free, and the public is invited.

Thirty-one participants are involved in the two productions.

Appearing in Once Upon a Princess and a Pea are Hadley McCoy, James Stewart, Leo Brown, Harris Weltz, Mitch Staggers, and Maddie McCoy.  Also in the cast are Zoey Doan,  Jocelyn Gardner, Kaitlin Welker, Savannah McCoy, Isaac Hertenstein, and Cam and Tobey Benedix.

A second group will be presenting a play titled Saturday Afternoon. This production includes Connor George, Rebecca Hebb, Lina Brown, and Lily Barker.  Others in the cast include Dunkin York, Sydney Campbell, Kendra Hanlon, Isabella Brown, Fiona Good, Marleah Muncie, Brenigan Warren, Ben Staggers, and Merry Norris.
