CAST FOR “THE CURIOUS SAVAGE” SET

The cast for the July PCPH production of the John Patrick comedy The Curious Savage has been selected.

Playing the leading role of Mrs. Ethel Savage is Beth  Bax.

Joining her as her stage family are Don Collins as Titus, Kathryn Dory as Lilly Belle, and Clarence Long as Samuel.

When Mrs. Savage is placed in The Cloisters by her grown children, she meets others who share her disregard for the average life.

Playing the other residents are Alixandra Green as Fairy May, Tammy Hunter as Florence, Don Wilson as Hannibal, Kenneth Buchanan as Jeffrey, and Sandi Rossok as Mrs. Paddy.

Those in charge of The Cloisters include Jim Rambo as Dr. Emmett and Shalynn Branscum as Miss Willie.

YOUTH THEATRE WORKSHOP 2012

Putnam County  Playhouse will conduct its 8th annual Youth Theatre Workshop beginning Monday, June 18.

 Interested students should be enrolled or entering middle school, be  high school age, or just beyond.  No audition is required and the workshop is free!  
Bringing to  young people a love of Shakespeare’s beautiful and lively language, providing  them a venue to explore their own creativity and talents in which they can perhaps  find their own niche, and allowing them to express themselves while connecting  to a brilliant mind that lived 400 years ago is the passionate mission for the  Youth Theatre “Shakespeared!” Workshop.
This year, each  group will render into manifestation a version of Shakespeare’s The Tempest.  The younger group directed by Alisa Isaacs-Bailey, and the high school  students, directed by Caroline Good, will creatively collaborate on their own versions of the play with the obligatory soundtrack of  popular music, chase scenes, and cultural references bringing the play’s  essence to life.
The entire “Shakespeared!” experience is designed to challenge the young player and to  demystify the bard’s lively text in a fun and engaging way, empowering them  with ownership of it.   In addition to interacting  with Shakespeare’s text and learning the play, students will have the  opportunity to directly apply instruction in acting technique, movement, voice, improvisation, timing, character development, and subtext. 
The groups will  meet daily for two weeks in the afternoons.  
 The middle school group meets 12:30-2:30pm and the high school group  3:00-5:30pm Monday-Friday for both weeks with the final performance on  Saturday, June 30, at 7 p.m. at the Hazel Day Longden Theatre. Tickets for the  performance will be available at the door.
We  welcome all participants; there will be parts for everyone.  We do not hold auditions, but we do  cast the roles according to interest, experience, and vocal abilities.  Therefore, it would be extremely beneficial  to have some familiarity with the play’s story and characters coming into the  workshop.   Check the drop down menu at the top of the page under Current Season – YTW.

CHILDREN’S THEATRE WORKSHOP FOR YOUNGER PARTICIPANTS!!!

The Children’s Theatre Workshop is back!  The workshop for children ages 8-12 will be held daily July 23rd-27th 10:00-11:30am, with a  “work in progress” performance on Saturday, July 28th at  the Hazel Day Longden Theatre. Bringing to young people the love of theatre, providing them  a venue to explore their creativity, and allowing them to collaborate and  express themselves on stage is the mission of the Children’s Theatre Workshop.
In addition to learning basic  theatre vocabulary, the participants will be given instruction in basic acting  technique, movement and voice for the stage, character development, and how to  work with an ensemble.
The participants will  then apply these skills through theatre games and as they rehearse a short  play. Please watch the website for more information this  summer.  Applications will be available online July 1.

The drama starred Brian Williams as Hal and Beth Lasley as Madge (seen in the screen cap).  
Also appearing in featured roles were Evelyn Robbins, Adeline Knoy, Carroll Burdsall, Hillary Heavin, Martha Coffey, Bunny Carrel, Mark Frisbie, Jason Frisbie, and Ruby Barnett.

From our July, 1985, production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore.
The production was directed by Jim Poor with choreography by Jack Randall Earles and musical direction by Geoff Price.

Troy Wilson was featured as Captain Corcoran.  Also starring in this young people’s production were John C. Baughman, Jr, as Sir Joseph Porter, Cathy Barr as Buttercup, David Brown as Ralph, Bert Brown as Dick, and Sharon Carlson as Josephine.
This is the only PCPH production of a Gilbert & Sullivan show, so far.
